Hybrid Environment

A Hybrid Environment combines two or more distinct operating environments that exchange information, services, workloads, artifacts, or operational control through defined interfaces and processes.
The participating environments may include cloud, on-premises, connected, disconnected, air-gapped, development, test, production, or recovery environments.
A Hybrid Environment preserves relevant differences among its participating environments while coordinating them as part of a broader operational arrangement.
The hybrid model may distribute build, compliance, storage, deployment, monitoring, or operational activities among environments with different ownership, connectivity, assurance, or regulatory characteristics.

Note
A Hybrid Environment does not require continuous connectivity among all participating environments. Controlled transfer processes may connect a Connected Environment with a Disconnected Environment or Air-Gapped Environment.
The term describes the combined operational arrangement rather than any single participating environment.
Example
An organization builds and scans hardened machine images in a connected cloud environment, transfers approved bundles across an Air Gap, and deploys the images inside an on-premises enclave. Together, the connected and disconnected environments form a Hybrid Environment.
