P4-REQ-21-10-004
Statement
Each repository location SHALL identify whether the artifacts are hand-authored, generated, configured, documented, temporary, local, or non-baseline.
Source
Part 4, Section 21.10: Repository and Build Artifact Requirements.
Rationale
Generation and baseline status affect how artifacts may be created, modified, reviewed, regenerated, retained, or removed.
Explicitly identifying artifact status prevents generated or temporary material from being mistaken for governed source and prevents local or exploratory material from being treated as part of the Phase 0 baseline.
Applies To
This requirement applies to:
-
all governed repository locations;
-
hand-authored source artifacts;
-
generated artifacts;
-
configuration artifacts;
-
documentation artifacts;
-
temporary and local artifacts; and
-
non-baseline material.
Verification
Verification SHALL confirm that each repository location identifies the status of the artifacts it contains.
Verification activities should include review checks confirming that:
-
hand-authored and generated artifacts are distinguishable;
-
configuration and documentation locations are identifiable;
-
temporary and local material are marked appropriately; and
-
non-baseline material cannot be confused with approved baseline artifacts.
Traceability
This requirement establishes artifact-status classification for Phase 0 repository locations.
