SIP-032 — Separation from Existing Mechanisms
Statement
The architectural model SHALL distinguish Governance constructs from transport, information-exchange, message-exchange, and Federation mechanisms defined by existing OMG specifications.
Rationale
Governance constructs establish authority, applicability, constraints, lifecycle controls, and decision processes. Transport, information-exchange, message-exchange, and Federation mechanisms provide operational capabilities through which information may be conveyed or coordinated.
Distinguishing these responsibilities prevents implementation mechanisms from implicitly defining Governance decisions. It also enables existing OMG specifications to be used without incorporating their mechanisms into the definition of the proposed Reference Architecture.
Evaluation Criteria
A conforming Submission demonstrates that:
-
Governance constructs are explicitly identified in the architectural model
-
Transport, information-exchange, message-exchange, and Federation mechanisms are identified as distinct concerns
-
The responsibilities of Governance constructs are distinguished from the responsibilities of the existing mechanisms
-
Relationships between Governance constructs and existing mechanisms are represented without conflating their responsibilities
-
Existing OMG specifications associated with the referenced mechanisms are identified
-
The architectural model does not treat an implementation mechanism as the source of Governance authority
