GPR-013 — Compatibility with Existing Standards

The proposed specification SHALL be compatible with and usable alongside applicable existing OMG specifications and specifications published by other recognized standards bodies.

Mandatory

The proposed specification will operate within an existing standards ecosystem. Incompatibility with applicable standards could prevent combined implementation, create conflicting definitions, or require organizations to replace otherwise suitable standards-based capabilities.

Compatibility allows implementations to use the proposed specification alongside applicable existing standards without changing their normative meaning or invalidating their conformance obligations.

A conforming Submission demonstrates that:

  1. Applicable existing OMG specifications are identified
  2. Applicable specifications published by other recognized standards bodies are identified
  3. Relationships between the proposed specification and each applicable existing specification are described
  4. Overlapping concepts, responsibilities, and interfaces are identified
  5. Conflicting definitions or requirements are identified and resolved
  6. Existing normative meanings are preserved
  7. Applicable versions of referenced specifications are identified
  8. Implementations can use the proposed specification alongside the applicable existing specifications
  9. Use of the proposed specification does not invalidate an otherwise valid conformance claim to an applicable existing specification
  10. Required mappings, bindings, profiles, or integration points are identified
  11. Compatibility limitations are explicitly documented

Compatibility does not necessarily establish a normative dependency. A specification may coexist or interoperate with another specification without incorporating that specification into its own conformance requirements.

GPR-007 governs reuse of applicable existing standards. GPR-011 limits normative dependencies. GPR-013 governs compatibility when the proposed specification is used alongside other applicable standards.
