SIP-005 — Structured Information Flow
Statement
The information-flow Model SHALL define an architectural construct representing the flow of structured information between architectural elements.
Rationale
Structured information processing requires an explicit representation of how information moves through the Reference Architecture. Without an information-flow construct, exchanges may remain implicit within implementation behavior, making the source, destination, direction, content, and processing context difficult to identify.
Representing structured information flow as an architectural construct supports analysis, composition, Governance, security segmentation, interface definition, and Traceability across distributed Systems.
Evaluation Criteria
The Submission satisfies this requirement when the information-flow Model:
-
Defines structured information flow as an identifiable architectural construct
-
Identifies the architectural elements participating in a flow
-
Represents the source and destination of the flow
-
Represents the direction in which structured information moves
-
Identifies or references the structured information carried by the flow
-
Defines how the flow relates to the interactions between participating architectural elements
-
Supports Traceability from a flow to its participating elements and exchanged information

Notes for Editors
SIP-005 requires a first-class architectural representation of structured information flow.
SIP-006 — Ordered Modular Processing Flows addresses the composition of these flows into ordered processing behavior.
SIP-007 — Structured Information Attachment Points addresses the points through which structured information enters and exits architectural elements.
