Platform Deployment

Platform Deployment establishes an operational platform within a target Infrastructure Environment.

The deployed platform may comprise:

  • Operating-system components
  • Runtime components
  • Middleware
  • Container services
  • Data services
  • Messaging services
  • Identity and access services
  • Monitoring services
  • Logging services
  • Security services
  • Platform configuration
  • Supporting Artifacts

Platform Deployment may perform activities such as:

  • Retrieving identified platform Artifacts
  • Installing platform components
  • Applying platform configuration
  • Establishing component relationships
  • Starting platform services
  • Evaluating deployment results
  • Recording the deployed platform state

Platform Deployment differs from Infrastructure Deployment:

  • Infrastructure Deployment creates or modifies the infrastructure resources that constitute an Infrastructure Environment
  • Platform Deployment installs and configures the platform capabilities that operate on or within that Infrastructure Environment

A Platform Deployment may depend on Infrastructure Deployment, but the architecture may perform the two deployments through separate workflows or combine them within a coordinated deployment process.

Platform Deployment also differs from application deployment:

  • Platform Deployment establishes the services and runtime capabilities required to host or support applications
  • Application deployment installs and configures an application on an available platform

deployment that installs and configures platform components and services within a target infrastructure environment

A Platform Deployment may use:

Completion of a Platform Deployment does not by itself establish that the deployed platform satisfies its applicable Acceptance Criteria.

The applicable requirements determine:

  • Required platform components
  • Required configuration
  • Target Infrastructure Environment
  • Permitted deployment methods
  • Required validation
  • Required records
  • Required Evidence

The term does not prescribe a particular operating system, middleware product, container platform, cloud provider, deployment tool, or implementation technology.

A Platform Deployment installs and configures container orchestration, identity, logging, monitoring, messaging, and security services within a prepared Infrastructure Environment.
