Object Management Group (OMG)

The Object Management Group (OMG) is an international, member-driven standards development organization. Its membership includes end users, vendors, government agencies, researchers, academic institutions, and other organizations that collaborate to develop and maintain technology standards.

OMG develops specifications through a governed standards process involving technical committees, task forces, special interest groups, the Architecture Board, and the OMG Board of Directors. This process separates the development and adoption of specifications from the products and implementations that realize them.

OMG specifications address modeling, distributed systems, middleware, data integration, systems engineering, finance, government, healthcare, manufacturing, and other technical and domain concerns.

The Federated Data Interpretation Systems Reference Architecture (FDIS-RA) operates within the OMG standards ecosystem. It applies OMG architectural principles, including platform independence, model-driven specification, separation of concerns, implementation neutrality, and inspectable conformance.

International standards development organization that develops and maintains consensus-based technology specifications.

OMG develops specifications rather than vendor-specific products or implementations. Independent organizations implement OMG specifications in commercial, governmental, academic, and open-source environments.

A specification developed or adopted by OMG does not require every conforming implementation to use the same internal design, programming language, product, platform, or deployment architecture unless the specification expressly defines such a requirement.

Links to the Data Distribution Service (DDS) and Standard Business Report Model (SBRM) glossary pages will be added when this page is revisited.

SysML, UML, DDS, Model Driven Architecture (MDA), and SBRM are examples of specifications or architectural frameworks developed or maintained under OMG governance.
