NOD-011a — Specify Node State Preservation

The governing Test Definition SHALL specify each representation of Node state requiring preservation.

Node-state preservation requires a specification that identifies what the DIDO-TE preserves and the purpose served by the preserved state representation.

The governing Test Definition identifies the Node, preservation point or event, state information, scope, consistency conditions, capture conditions, protection requirements, verification criteria, retention period, restoration conditions, and disposition conditions.

The state information may include lifecycle state, Node Configuration, internal data, processing position, pending work, Node Bindings, resource assignments, timing information, and other information required to represent the specified Node state.

The specification identifies whether the preserved representation supports reconstruction, comparison, analysis, repeatability, Evidence, restoration, or another identified testing purpose. The specified purpose determines the information and controls required for preservation.

An incomplete or ambiguous preservation specification may produce a representation that does not accurately or sufficiently represent the intended Node state.

Verification confirms that:

  1. The governing Test Definition uniquely identifies each Node whose state requires preservation.
  2. The governing Test Definition identifies the purpose of each preserved state representation.
  3. The governing Test Definition identifies the point, event, condition, or sequence that initiates capture.
  4. The governing Test Definition identifies the state information included in the representation.
  5. The governing Test Definition identifies the state information excluded from the representation.
  6. The governing Test Definition identifies the required scope and level of completeness.
  7. The governing Test Definition identifies the consistency conditions governing capture.
  8. The governing Test Definition identifies the required time reference.
  9. The governing Test Definition identifies the protection requirements governing confidentiality, integrity, availability, and access.
  10. The governing Test Definition identifies the criteria used to verify the preserved state representation.
  11. The governing Test Definition identifies the retention period.
  12. The governing Test Definition identifies the conditions governing restoration.
  13. The governing Test Definition identifies the conditions governing disposition.
  14. The governing Test Definition identifies the Node Definition, Node Implementation, Node Configuration, Node Bindings, Test Environment, and Test Execution associated with the state representation.
  15. The specification distinguishes the preserved representation from the live state of the Node.
  16. The specification contains no missing, ambiguous, conflicting, or unverifiable preservation condition.
  17. The DIDO-TE maintains Traceability among the preservation specification, Node, preservation point, state information, governing Test Procedure, Test Environment, Test Executions, Test Results, and resulting Evidence.
  18. A missing, incomplete, ambiguous, conflicting, incorrectly scoped, or untraceable preservation specification constitutes nonconformance with this requirement.
