NOD-001b — Identify the Node Type

The DIDO-TE SHALL identify the type of each Node within the applicable Test Environment.

A Node type classifies Nodes that share a defined set of structural, behavioural, interface, lifecycle, resource, or deployment characteristics. The type identifies what kind of Node participates in the Test Environment, while the Node role identifies the responsibility assigned to that Node.

Multiple Node instances may share the same type while performing different roles. Conversely, Nodes of different types may perform similar roles through different implementations or technologies.

Explicit type identification permits the DIDO-TE to select compatible implementations, apply appropriate configurations, allocate required resources, validate interfaces and dependencies, and interpret observed behaviour against the correct specification.

Verification confirms that:

  • Each Node has a uniquely identified Node type.
  • Each Node type has a unique name or identifier within its governing scope.
  • The Node Definition identifies the source, authority, or specification governing the Node type.
  • The Node type identifies the characteristics shared by its conforming Node instances.
  • The Node type identifies its required interfaces, dependencies, resource characteristics, lifecycle behaviour, and observability characteristics.
  • The Node type identifies any applicable constraints on implementation, execution, deployment, or configuration.
  • The Node type remains distinguishable from the role assigned to a Node.
  • The Node type remains distinguishable from the identity of an individual Node instance.
  • The Node Definition identifies any type hierarchy, specialisation, profile, or variant applicable to the Node.
  • Each specialisation or variant identifies the characteristics inherited from and added to its parent type.
  • The Node Definition identifies the applicable version or revision of the Node type.
  • The DIDO-TE verifies that each Node instance satisfies the characteristics required by its identified type.
  • The DIDO-TE detects a Node instance whose implementation, configuration, interfaces, dependencies, or behaviour conflicts with its identified type.
  • A change to a Node’s type or type version produces a controlled change to the Node Definition or Test Definition.
  • The DIDO-TE records the type and type version of each Node participating in a Test Execution.
  • The DIDO-TE maintains Traceability among the Node instance, Node type, type version, Node Definition, Test Definition, and Test Execution.
  • An absent, ambiguous, incompatible, incorrectly assigned, or untraceable mandatory Node type constitutes nonconformance with this requirement.

Verification includes:

  • Inspection of each Node Definition
  • Inspection of the Node type identifier, version, source, and defining characteristics
  • Comparison of a Node instance with the requirements of its assigned type
  • Confirmation that Node role, Node type, and Node identity remain distinguishable
  • Confirmation that specialisations and variants identify their inherited and additional characteristics
  • Testing with a Node implementation that satisfies its assigned type
  • A negative assessment involving a Node implementation incompatible with its assigned type
  • A negative assessment involving an absent or unsupported Node type version
  • Inspection of recorded Node type assignments and Traceability records
  • Add links to the architecture sections governing Node classification, Node definitions, implementation selection, configuration, provisioning, and Traceability.

Assign the applicable delivery phase.
