Test Asset
Discussion
A Test Asset is an identifiable entity used to define, configure, execute, evaluate, or reproduce a Test. A Test Asset may be executable or non-executable and may be reused by more than one Test.
A Test Asset may include:
-
Test data
-
A Test Environment specification
-
A measurement or monitoring specification
-
A validation rule
A Test Asset may be stored in a repository, identified by a catalog entry, governed by a Policy, associated with a Version, and related to other Test Assets through Traceability.

Note
A Test Asset is identified by its role in testing rather than by its representation, storage location, ownership, implementation technology, or execution model.
A Test Asset differs from a Test Result:
-
A Test Asset is used to define, configure, execute, evaluate, or reproduce a Test
-
A Test Result records information produced by a Test Execution
A Test Result may later be selected as an input to another Test. In that role, it also serves as a Test Asset for the later Test.
Reusable Test Assets should retain sufficient Provenance, Version, applicable Requirements, dependencies, and Traceability to support governed reuse.
Example
A Test Definition, Test Sequence, Test Executable, input dataset, Expected Result, and Test Environment specification are Test Assets used together to perform and evaluate a repeatable Test.
