Data Management Activity

A Data Management Activity is a coordinated set of actions performed to govern or handle Managed Data. It provides the organizing context that relates the Managed Data, applicable Data Management Criteria, governing Requirements, actors, actions, and resulting Data Management Outcome.

A Data Management Activity may identify, classify, validate, access, preserve, version, retain, dispose of, transfer, transform, or record Managed Data. The applicable Requirements, Policies, Constraints, Baselines, profiles, and decisions of an Authority determine which actions apply.

A Data Management Activity remains distinct from an individual operation performed upon Data. The activity provides the governed context in which one or more operations occur.

A Data Management Activity may complete successfully, fail, stop before completion, be suspended, be canceled, or be reversed. Each completion or termination produces a Data Management Outcome.

A Data Management Activity may contain subordinate activities or actions and may involve multiple actors, Nodes, repositories, services, communication endpoints, or execution environments.

A Data Management Activity validates a set of Test Inputs against its applicable Structure, records the validation result, and produces a Data Management Outcome indicating whether the inputs were accepted or rejected.
