SIP-036 — Relationship to Semantic Federation and Ontology Modeling
Statement
The Submission SHALL describe how the proposed Reference Architecture relates to existing OMG specifications addressing semantic Federation and Ontology-based modeling.
Rationale
Existing OMG specifications provide mechanisms for representing meaning, relating independently governed semantic resources, mapping concepts, and supporting semantic Federation.
The proposed Reference Architecture governs the structural and interpretive context within which these mechanisms may be used. Describing the relationship prevents the architecture from conflating its responsibilities with the semantic models and Federation mechanisms provided by existing specifications.
Evaluation Criteria
A conforming Submission demonstrates that:
-
Applicable OMG semantic-Federation and Ontology-modeling specifications are identified
-
The responsibilities of the identified specifications are summarized
-
Relationships between those responsibilities and the proposed Reference Architecture are described
-
Governance and structural abstractions remain distinguishable from semantic-Federation mechanisms
-
The proposed Reference Architecture can use multiple semantic or Ontology-modeling approaches
-
The architectural model does not require a particular Ontology, Vocabulary, Domain Taxonomy, or representation technology
