SIP-034 — Preservation of Existing Transport and Exchange Constructs
Statement
The proposed Reference Architecture SHALL NOT redefine, duplicate, or supersede transport, information-exchange, message-exchange, or message-layer constructs defined by existing OMG specifications.
Rationale
Existing OMG specifications define established transport, exchange, messaging, and message-layer capabilities. Redefining or duplicating those constructs would create overlapping responsibilities, conflicting definitions, and unnecessary barriers to reuse and interoperability.
The proposed Reference Architecture may reference and interact with these constructs, but it preserves their normative ownership within the applicable OMG specifications.
Evaluation Criteria
A conforming Submission demonstrates that:
-
Applicable existing OMG transport, information-exchange, message-exchange, and message-layer specifications are identified
-
Existing constructs used or referenced by the proposed Reference Architecture retain their meanings and responsibilities
-
The proposed Reference Architecture does not introduce replacement definitions for existing constructs
-
Any mappings to existing constructs are explicitly identified
-
Extensions, if proposed, are clearly distinguished from the constructs governed by existing specifications
-
Conformance to the proposed Reference Architecture does not conflict with conformance to an applicable existing OMG specification

Notes for Editors
SIP-026 protects existing OMG specifications generally. This requirement specifically protects their transport, information-exchange, message-exchange, and message-layer constructs from architectural redefinition, duplication, or supersession.
