SIP-026 — Preservation of Existing OMG Specifications

The Submission SHALL NOT replace, supersede, or modify existing OMG specifications addressing information exchange, interoperability, or semantic federation.

OMG has adopted specifications that address information exchange, distributed interaction, interoperability, modeling, and semantic technologies. SIP-RA should provide an architectural framework that relates to and uses applicable specifications without redefining their normative content.

Preserving the authority and scope of existing OMG specifications reduces duplication, avoids conflicting requirements, and allows SIP-RA to benefit from established standards and implementation experience.

The Submission satisfies this requirement when it:

  1. Identifies existing OMG specifications relevant to the proposed Reference Architecture
  2. Defines how applicable specifications relate to SIP-RA architectural elements and interactions
  3. References existing normative provisions rather than reproducing or redefining them
  4. Avoids introducing conflicting definitions or requirements within the scope of an existing specification
  5. Distinguishes SIP-RA architectural responsibilities from responsibilities governed by referenced specifications
  6. Identifies any apparent overlap or conflict requiring coordination through the appropriate OMG process
  7. Avoids claiming that SIP-RA supersedes an existing OMG specification unless OMG separately authorizes that action

This requirement does not prohibit SIP-RA from using, referencing, profiling, mapping to, or composing capabilities defined by existing OMG specifications.

Changes to an existing OMG specification must occur through the maintenance, revision, or replacement process applicable to that specification rather than through the SIP-RA Submission.
