Performance Measurement

A Performance Measurement is the process used to obtain a value for a Performance Measure. It occurs under identified conditions and an identified Workload so that its result can be interpreted and reproduced.

The process may use direct observation, counting, instrumentation, calculation, or a model consistent with the applicable measurement method.

process of obtaining a value for a performance measure

  • Performance Measurement denotes the process, not the value produced by the process
  • The value and relevant interpretive information constitute a Performance Measurement Result
  • Measurement conditions may include Configuration, resource allocation, Node state, communication conditions, environmental conditions, external dependencies, and time basis

Observing elapsed time for each request in a specified Workload is a Performance Measurement of Latency.
