P2-REQ-16-2-004
Statement
The Logical Architecture / PIM SHALL distinguish Logical Nodes from runtime deployments, implementation artifacts, deployment artifacts, execution mechanisms, and communication technologies.
Source
Part 2, Section 16.2: Distributed Node-Based Architecture Requirements.
Rationale
The Logical Architecture is platform independent. Separating Logical Nodes from implementation and deployment concepts preserves architectural meaning while allowing multiple implementation approaches to realize the same logical participant.
Applies To
This requirement applies to the definition, interpretation, maintenance, review, and implementation mapping of the Logical Architecture / PIM.
It applies specifically to:
-
Logical Nodes;
-
Implementation Profiles;
-
Deployment Profiles; and
-
Technology mappings.
Verification
Verification SHALL confirm that Logical Nodes remain distinct from implementation and deployment concepts.
Verification activities should include review checks confirming that:
-
Logical Nodes are not defined as runtime artifacts;
-
implementation technologies do not redefine Logical Nodes;
-
deployment mechanisms do not redefine Logical Nodes; and
-
implementation mappings preserve the logical meaning of each Logical Node.
Traceability
This requirement supports traceability between Logical Nodes and the implementation artifacts that realize them.
