Request for Information (RFI)

A Request for Information (RFI) is an OMG information-gathering document. An RFI requests information from industry, academia, and other interested parties about a particular technology area. An OMG Technology Committee subgroup uses the responses to understand current practices, technologies, requirements, risks, adoption readiness, and possible areas for future standardization.

An RFI gathers information. An RFP requests proposals from OMG members for possible adoption as an OMG specification.
Example
An OMG subgroup issues an RFI when it needs information about an emerging technology area before deciding whether to develop an RFP.
