Pedigree
Discussion
Pedigree represents information about the lineage, custody, ownership, authority, qualification, or history of an entity, participant, Node, record, model, rule, evidence item, or governed artifact.
In the FX Demo Reference Architecture, Pedigree supports trust assessment, qualification, governance review, evidence assessment, source evaluation, model governance, and accountability.
Pedigree differs from Provenance in that it emphasizes the history, authority, custody, ownership, or qualification of an entity or artifact. Provenance emphasizes how an information item, result, decision, or output originated, changed, or was produced.
Definition
information about the lineage, custody, ownership, authority, qualification, or history of an entity, participant, Node, record, model, rule, evidence item, or governed artifact
Source
Generalised from OMG Pedigree and Provenance Model and Notation and specialized for use in the FX Demo Reference Architecture.
Note
Pedigree is not the same as Provenance. Pedigree supports assessment of lineage, custody, authority, ownership, or qualification. Provenance supports the explanation of origin, derivation, production, transformation, or processing history.
Example
A Node pedigree record identifies the Qualified Service Provider responsible for the Node, the applicable Qualification Profile, qualification evidence, certification history, suspension history, and governance approvals.
