FR-UI-003 — Web-Based User Interface

Crucible SHALL provide a Web-Based User Interface (Web UI) for invoking Crucible operations and observing their results.

This requirement derives from:

  • Crucible System Requirements Specification, Version 1.1 Draft, Functional Requirements, FR-UI-001
  • Crucible System Requirements Specification, Version 1.1 Draft, Functional Requirements, FR-UI-002

The Original Requirements establish a web-based interface for managing multiple Infrastructure Environments and require the web-based interface to use the same engine and command-line capabilities as the primary command-line interface.[C1]

FR-UI-003:

  • Identifies Crucible as the required system
  • Replaces the broad phrase web-based management interface with the controlled term Web-Based User Interface (Web UI)
  • Expresses provision of the Web-Based User Interface as a direct and independently verifiable requirement
  • Identifies invocation of Crucible operations and observation of their results as the interface behavior
  • Separates provision of the Web-Based User Interface from shared interface operations
  • Separates provision of the Web-Based User Interface from provision of the Command-Line Interface

FR-UI-001 separately governs operations exposed through both interfaces.

FR-UI-002 separately requires the Command-Line Interface (CLI).

A Web-Based User Interface (Web UI) provides a browser-accessible graphical interface through which a person can interact with Crucible.

The Web-Based User Interface enables a user to invoke Crucible operations and observe their resulting status, output, or other observable result without requiring direct command-line interaction.

Providing a Web-Based User Interface gives users an additional access path while preserving the Command-Line Interface (CLI) for interactive command-line use, scripts, automated Workflows, and CI/CD Pipelines.

This requirement establishes a Web-Based User Interface without prescribing:

  • A particular web browser
  • A particular web framework
  • A particular visual design
  • A particular navigation structure
  • A particular page layout
  • A particular presentation technology
  • A particular client-side framework
  • A particular server-side framework
  • A particular authentication mechanism
  • A particular internal implementation
  • A particular set of Crucible operations
  • Replacement of the Command-Line Interface
  • Duplication of operation implementations

Separate requirements, architecture specifications, interface specifications, security requirements, and user-experience specifications govern those subjects.

This requirement applies to:

Verification confirms that:

  1. A test user can access the Web-Based User Interface through a supported web browser
  2. The test user can invoke an identified Crucible operation through the Web-Based User Interface
  3. The Web-Based User Interface accepts the inputs required by the selected operation
  4. Crucible performs the selected operation
  5. The Web-Based User Interface presents an observable operation result
  6. The Web-Based User Interface presents an observable completion or execution status

Implemented and Verified

Review and approve FR-UI-003 as a leaf requirement.

Confirm which Crucible operations the Web-Based User Interface must expose.

Confirm whether the Web-Based User Interface must support management of multiple Infrastructure Environments as an explicit requirement.

Determine whether separate requirements define browser support, accessibility, authentication, session management, status presentation, error reporting, and result presentation.

This requirement page retains the stable requirement identifier FR-UI-003.

This page is a leaf requirement page and omits a trailing :start from its namespace.

The Statement uses the following controlling Terms and Definitions entries:

The Statement addresses provision of a Web-Based User Interface for invoking Crucible operations and observing their results.

FR-UI-001 governs operations exposed through both the Web-Based User Interface and the Command-Line Interface (CLI).

FR-UI-002 governs provision of the Command-Line Interface.

The Web-Based User Interface provides an additional interface and does not replace the Command-Line Interface.

The term observe requires an operation result or status to be available through the Web-Based User Interface. It does not require every operation to complete synchronously or remain within a single browser interaction.

Do not add particular browsers, web frameworks, page structures, presentation technologies, authentication mechanisms, operation sets, or user-experience obligations unless the controlling requirement changes through an approved requirements process.
