OR-005 — Distributed Environment Management
Statement
Crucible SHALL perform Centralized Management of two or more Distributed Environments.
Derived From
This requirement derives from:
-
Crucible System Requirements Specification, Version 1.1 Draft, Operational Requirements, OR-005
The Original Requirement states:
The system SHALL support centralized management of distributed environments.[C1]
OR-005 replaces the system with the defined system name Crucible, replaces the weak verb support with perform, and defines the minimum quantity represented by distributed environments as two.
Rationale
Organizations operate Infrastructure Environments whose components, resources, or services span multiple networked locations or Nodes.
Centralized Management provides a unified management authority for those environments without requiring the managed environments to form a Centralized System.
A Distributed Environment can use a Distributed System or a Distributed Network Topology while remaining subject to Centralized Management by Crucible.
This requirement establishes the centralized-management capability without prescribing a particular Management Interface, network topology, communication protocol, or implementation technology.
Applies To
This requirement applies to:
Verification
Verification confirms that:
-
At least two Distributed Environments are selected for management
-
Crucible performs management operations for each selected Distributed Environment
-
The management operations are performed through the Centralized Management capability
-
The Centralized Management capability identifies the Distributed Environment to which each tested management operation applies
-
A user or automated process can manage each selected Distributed Environment through the Centralized Management capability
-
The tested Distributed Environments satisfy the characteristics defined for a Distributed Environment

Notes for Editors
This requirement page retains the stable requirement identifier OR-005.
This page is a leaf requirement page and omits a trailing :start from its namespace.
OR-005 governs Centralized Management of two or more Distributed Environments.
OR-005 does not independently require:
-
A particular Management Interface
-
A particular network topology
-
Concurrent management operations
-
Preservation of environment identity
-
Preservation of Operational Lifecycle State
-
Resource or operation isolation
-
Communication recovery
-
State reconciliation
-
Management of disconnected or Air-Gapped Environments
Separate requirements should define those obligations when supported by the controlling source material.
Changes to the Statement should preserve:
-
Crucible as the responsible actor
-
Centralized Management as the required behavior
-
Two or more Distributed Environments as the managed subjects
