3.2.7 Business Committee Questionnaire

Return to The Adoption Process in Detail

Before the Board of Directors (BoD) makes its final decision on whether to turn a Technical Committee recommendation into an OMG-published specification, the BoD asks its Business Committee to evaluate whether implementations of the specification are publicly available.

To perform this evaluation, the Business Committee sends a Business Committee Questionnaire (BCQ) [BCQ] to every OMG Member listed as a Submitter on the recommended Submission. Members who are not Submitters can also complete a Business Committee Questionnaire for the Submission.

If no organization commits to using the specification, the BoD typically does not act on the recommendation to adopt the specification. Submitters therefore need to respond to the BCQ.

Once the Business Committee receives satisfactory BCQ responses, the Board takes the final vote on publication. A Submission adopted by the Board is referred to as an Alpha Specification.

At this point, the RFP process is complete.
