Discussion

A Configuration Parameter identifies a property whose assigned Configuration Value affects the configuration or operation of a Node.

The Configuration Parameter specifies the meaning and constraints of the property independently of the value assigned to it. Its specification identifies information such as its name, identifier, data type, format, units, cardinality, permitted range, default, sensitivity classification, and applicable validation rules.

A Configuration Parameter remains distinct from its Configuration Value. The parameter identifies what receives a value. The value supplies the data assigned to the parameter.

A Node Configuration identifies the applicable Configuration Parameters and associates each parameter with a value, value reference, resolution rule, or applicable Configuration Source.

Definition

named configurable property for which a Node Configuration assigns or resolves a value

Note

A Configuration Parameter includes sufficient information to interpret and validate its assigned Configuration Value.

A mandatory Configuration Parameter requires a resolved and valid value before the Node enters a state dependent upon that parameter.

A material change to a parameter’s meaning, type, units, constraints, or validation rules produces a distinguishable revision of the parameter specification.

Example

The parameter `ddsDomainId`, defined as an integer with a permitted range of `0` through `232`, constitutes a Configuration Parameter. The integer `42` assigned to it constitutes its Configuration Value.
