The DIDO-TE SHALL configure the Communication Protocol specified for communication through each Virtual Network.
A Communication Protocol specifies the rules and conventions governing information exchange between communicating entities.
The governing Test Definition specifies the Communication Protocol required for communication through the Virtual Network.
Configuring the Communication Protocol allows a Test Environment to reproduce the protocol conditions required by the distributed system under test without prescribing the implementation technology used to realize those conditions.
A Communication Protocol remains distinct from a Communication Characteristic. A protocol defines the rules governing information exchange, while a Communication Characteristic describes an aspect of that exchange.
A Communication Protocol also remains distinct from Internet Quality of Service (Internet QoS). Internet QoS describes characteristics of packet delivery, while a Communication Protocol governs the rules used for information exchange.
This requirement does not prescribe a particular protocol, protocol stack, middleware technology, transport mechanism, or network implementation.
Verification confirms that:
Verification includes a Test Definition specifying a Communication Protocol and confirms that communication through the Virtual Network is configured to use that protocol.
This requirement configures the Communication Protocol governing information exchange through a Virtual Network.
NET-004a separately configures Latency, and NET-004c separately configures Internet Quality of Service (Internet QoS).
