Maintained Item
Discussion
A Maintained Item is the entity selected as the subject of a maintenance activity. Identifying the Maintained Item establishes the scope within which a proposed change is analyzed, authorized, implemented, verified, and recorded.
A Maintained Item may be:
-
Executable software
-
Source code
-
A data model or schema
-
Documentation
-
A deployment specification
-
A component of a Node
-
Another identifiable entity subject to maintenance
A Maintained Item may contain subordinate items and may depend upon other entities. The maintenance activity identifies the item at the level needed to define the authorized change scope and assess its effects.

Note
The term identifies the role an entity plays in a particular maintenance activity. The same entity may be a Maintained Item in one activity and a dependency or affected entity in another.
A Maintained Item does not prescribe a particular granularity, representation, repository, configuration-management system, or implementation technology.
The Maintained Item should be associated with its applicable Baseline, dependencies, authorized change, verification results, and Maintenance Outcome.
Example
A Test Executable selected for correction after a defect is detected is the Maintained Item for that maintenance activity. Its runtime configuration and dependent libraries may be related affected entities.
