Interoperability Outcome
Discussion
An Interoperability Outcome records the result produced when an Interoperability Activity completes or terminates. It states what resulted without assuming that the participating entities satisfied the governing Interoperability Criteria.
An Interoperability Outcome may indicate that the activity:
-
Completed successfully
-
Completed with exceptions
-
Failed
-
Stopped before completion
-
Was suspended or canceled
-
Produced an unexpected response
-
Produced information that could not be interpreted or used
The outcome may reference the participating entities, exchanged information, requests, responses, detected exceptions, evaluation information, responsible actors, times, and other information needed to interpret the result.
Definition

Note
An Interoperability Outcome is not necessarily a successful result. Recording unsuccessful, incomplete, canceled, exception, and unusable-information outcomes prevents an attempted interaction from disappearing from the governed history.
An Interoperability Outcome remains distinct from a Validation Decision. The outcome records what resulted from the activity. A Validation Decision determines whether governing validation criteria are satisfied.
Example
Two Nodes exchange a Test Result having the required Structure, but the receiving Node cannot interpret one required value according to the governing Semantics. The Interoperability Outcome records the completed exchange and the interpretation failure without asserting successful Interoperability.
