Data Management Outcome
Discussion
A Data Management Outcome records the result produced when a Data Management Activity completes or terminates. It states what resulted without assuming that the intended action succeeded or that the Managed Data satisfies its applicable Requirements.
A Data Management Outcome may indicate that the activity:
-
Completed successfully
-
Completed with exceptions
-
Failed
-
Stopped before completion
-
Was suspended or canceled
-
Was reversed
-
Produced no change to the Managed Data
The outcome may reference the resulting Data, records of performed actions, detected exceptions, validation information, responsible actors, times, and other information needed to interpret the result.

Note
A Data Management Outcome is not necessarily a successful result. Recording unsuccessful, incomplete, canceled, reversed, and no-change outcomes prevents an attempted activity from disappearing from the governed history.
A Data Management Outcome remains distinct from a Validation Decision. The outcome records what resulted from the activity. A Validation Decision determines whether applicable validation criteria are satisfied.
Example
A Data Management Activity attempts to transform Test Input data into a required Structure. The resulting Data Management Outcome records that the transformation failed because a required source value was absent and that no transformed Data was released.
