6.4.2 Platform-Independent Model Definition
Return to Required Submission Content
The Platform Independent Model (PIM) formalizes the proposed Reference Architecture by defining its architectural constructs, relationships, constraints, and Governance abstractions using abstract syntax and formally defined Semantics.
Requirements
-
SIP-046 — Platform Independent Model Abstract Syntax: The Platform Independent Model SHALL define an abstract syntax for its architectural constructs, relationships, and constraints
-
SIP-047 — Platform Independent Model Formal Semantics: The Platform Independent Model SHALL define the formal Semantics of its architectural constructs, relationships, and constraints independently of any specific implementation technology
-
SIP-048 — Platform Independent Model Formal Precision: The Platform Independent Model SHALL be defined with sufficient formal precision to support independent implementation and conformance assessment
Required Coverage
The Platform Independent Model definition includes the architectural information governed by the following requirements:
| Requirement | Required Model Information |
|---|---|
| SIP-002 — Formal Platform Independent Model | A formal Platform Independent Model of the proposed Reference Architecture |
| SIP-003 — Reference Architecture Constituents | Architectural elements, roles, relationships, and interaction constructs |
| SIP-022 — Technology-Independent Conformance Points | Conformance points supporting inspection and verification independently of implementation technology |
| SIP-039 — Platform-Independent Modeling | Platform-independent architectural modeling without requiring a specific modeling language or notation |
| SIP-040 — Representation-Independent Architectural Constructs | Architectural meaning independent of a particular modeling syntax or diagrammatic representation |
Notes for Editors
The links to SIP-046 through SIP-048 provide temporary access to their individual Annex C requirement pages while those records are being created and reviewed.
After those records are complete, replace each locally maintained Statement with a transclusion of its authoritative Statement.
SIP-002 already requires the Submission to include a formal PIM. It is not repeated or renumbered in this section.
SIP-046 defines the required abstract syntax. SIP-047 defines the required formal Semantics. SIP-048 establishes the degree of precision needed to support independent implementation and conformance assessment.
The Required Coverage table provides a nonnormative summary of the model information governed by the referenced requirements. Their corresponding Annex C records remain authoritative.
