5.2.5 Standardized Metadata
Standardized, machine-readable representations of metadata models support model interchange, automated processing, and evaluation using OMG tooling and infrastructure.
Requirement
-
GPR-024 — XMI Representation of Metadata Models: A Submission that incorporates metadata specifications SHOULD provide a machine-readable OMG XML Metadata Interchange (XMI) representation of each applicable metadata model
Related Requirements
GPR-024 complements the following modeling-language requirements:
| Requirement | Relationship |
|---|---|
| GPR-001 — XMI Representation of OMG-Language Models | Requires an XMI representation when a Submission contains models expressed using an OMG modeling language |
| GPR-002 — XMI Representation of Non-OMG-Language Models | Recommends a best-effort XMI representation when a Submission uses a non-OMG modeling language |
Notes for Editors
GPR-024 is recommended when its applicability condition is satisfied because it uses SHOULD.
This requirement applies when a Submission incorporates one or more metadata specifications. It does not require a Submission to introduce a metadata specification when none is otherwise needed.
GPR-001 governs models expressed using OMG modeling languages and is mandatory when applicable. GPR-024 addresses metadata models specifically and remains recommended under the wording of this evaluation criterion.
Before publication, confirm the terminology and applicability of this requirement against the current OMG RFP boilerplate and the current XMI specification [XMI].
After the Annex C record is created and reviewed, replace the locally maintained Statement with a transclusion of its authoritative Statement.
