14.4 Data Representation Independence

Go To Top

The Logical Architecture / PIM does not prescribe a data representation, schema language, programming-language type system, database structure, ontology language, or wire format.

An Implementation Profile / PSM selects data representation mechanisms to realise Logical Data Structure Definitions and Logical Data Structure Instances. Those mechanisms include, for example, IDL, Protocol Buffers, JSON Schema, XML Schema, Avro, OpenAPI schemas, UML, SysML, ontology classes, database schemas, generated language types, serialised payloads, or other formal representations.

The selected representation realises the logical information structure. It does not redefine the Logical Data Structure Definition or Logical Data Structure Instance.
