Recognition Status

Recognition Status identifies the lifecycle condition of a Legal Entity Recognition at a specified time.

Recognition Status indicates whether the applicable legal recognition is proposed, pending, active, suspended, revoked, expired, dissolved, terminated, or in another condition defined by the applicable Controlled Vocabulary.

A Recognition Status may identify:

  • A stable identifier or code
  • A preferred label
  • A definition
  • The applicable lifecycle condition
  • Permitted preceding statuses
  • Permitted succeeding statuses
  • Applicable transition rules
  • The authority assigning the status
  • The reason for the status
  • The date or time at which the status became effective
  • An applicable Effective Period

Recognition Status remains distinct from the existence or Identity of the recognized Party. Suspending, revoking, expiring, dissolving, or terminating a Legal Entity Recognition does not automatically remove the underlying Person or Organization from the Information Model.

Recognition Status also remains distinct from:

Entity Status describes an entity's condition. Registration Status describes the condition of a registration record. Identifier Status describes an identifier's condition. Recognition Status describes the condition of a Legal Entity Recognition.

These statuses may be related, but a change in one does not automatically establish a change in another unless the applicable rules explicitly define that relationship.

  • Recognition Status applies to Legal Entity Recognition
  • Each Legal Entity Recognition identifies one current Recognition Status
  • Recognition Status does not define an additional Party Kind
  • Recognition Status does not replace the Identity of the recognized Party
  • Recognition Status remains distinct from Entity Status
  • Recognition Status remains distinct from Registration Status
  • Recognition Status remains distinct from Identifier Status
  • Recognition Status remains distinct from Legal Form
  • Recognition Status remains distinct from Organization Classification
  • A Recognition Status value uses an identified Controlled Vocabulary
  • The Controlled Vocabulary defines the permitted Recognition Status values
  • The Controlled Vocabulary may define permitted status transitions
  • A status change identifies when the new status becomes effective
  • A time-dependent Recognition Status identifies its applicable Effective Period
  • A prior Recognition Status remains available as historical information
  • A status change does not silently overwrite the prior status
  • Supporting Evidence may identify the authority or legal basis for a status assignment
  • Revoking or ending Legal Entity Recognition does not automatically remove the recognized Party
  • The platform-independent definition does not require a particular enumeration, state-machine implementation, database representation, programming-language type, or serialization format

Example Bank is an Organization having a Legal Entity Recognition in Jurisdiction A.

The applicable Recognition Status history is:

Recognition Status Effective Period Reason
Pending 2024-01-05 through 2024-01-19 Registration application under review
Active 2024-01-20 through 2026-06-29 Registration approved by Registration Authority A
Suspended 2026-06-30 through 2026-07-14 Required filing not received
Active Beginning 2026-07-15 Required filing accepted

The temporary Suspended status does not create a new Organization or replace the Identity of Example Bank.

The Information Model preserves the earlier Pending, Active, and Suspended status information with their applicable Effective Periods, Evidence References, and Provenance References.

The Recognition Status Controlled Vocabulary may contain:

Status Value Meaning
Proposed Recognition has been proposed but has not entered a formal review process
Pending Recognition is awaiting a decision or completion of an applicable process
Active Recognition is currently in effect
Suspended Recognition is temporarily not in effect or is subject to a temporary restriction
Revoked The applicable authority has withdrawn the recognition
Expired Recognition ended because its defined validity period elapsed
Dissolved Recognition ended following dissolution under applicable law
Terminated Recognition ended through another defined terminating event

The applicable Controlled Vocabulary and governing legal framework determine which values and transitions are permitted.
