Aligned with ISO/IEC/IEEE 42010 architecture-description concepts and the OMG Systems Modeling Language Version 2.0 Language Specification treatment of Views, View Definitions, Viewpoints, Model-content selection, and rendering.

Note

A View is distinct from a Viewpoint. A Viewpoint establishes the concerns and conventions governing the View. The View is the representation produced in accordance with those concerns and conventions.

A View is also distinct from a Model. A Model represents selected aspects of a subject for a defined purpose. A View selects and presents information from one or more Models to address particular stakeholder concerns.

A diagram may be one rendering within a View. A View is not limited to a single diagram and may include text, tables, matrices, calculations, analytical results, and other representations.

Example

A security-assurance View presents trust boundaries, information flows, identities, security controls, threats, residual risks, and supporting Evidence for a particular System. It selects and renders this information according to the requirements established by the security-assurance Viewpoint.
