A Regulatory Report communicates information required by an applicable law, regulation, regulatory rule or direction from an authorized regulatory body.
A reporting party may submit a Regulatory Report directly to a regulatory authority or indirectly through a designated recipient such as a trade repository, swap data repository or other authorized reporting mechanism.
A Regulatory Report may contain information about transactions, contracts, parties, products, lifecycle events, valuations, collateral, margin, settlement or other reportable subjects. The applicable reporting rule determines the required data elements, format, timing, recipient, and validation criteria.

A Regulatory Report is not the same as a report submission. The Regulatory Report contains the information communicated. A report submission represents a particular attempt to transmit that report.
A Regulatory Report is also distinct from Evidence. The Regulatory Report communicates required information. Evidence supports a claim about the report, submission, underlying activity, state, decision, or result.
A reporting counterparty submits the required data elements for an FX swap to a swap data repository under an applicable reporting rule. The structured information submitted for the FX swap constitutes a Regulatory Report.
