The Current Gap
Existing standards address important parts of structured information processing
Implementations still combine Data, Structure, Semantics, Interpretation, and Governance in different ways
No common Reference Architecture defines how these concerns work together across independently governed Domains
Federation continues to depend on custom mappings, interfaces, and agreements
Authority, provenance, and version dependencies are often difficult to identify
The Proposed OMG Action
Issue an RFP for a platform-independent Structured Information Processing Reference Architecture
Define the required architectural roles, responsibilities, relationships, and interfaces
Establish requirements for Governance, lifecycle control, federation, and Traceability
Reuse and relate applicable
OMG
specifications rather than replace them
Allow competing or joint submissions to propose the resulting specification
Intended Result
A common architectural foundation for interoperable structured information processing
Clear separation between governed information and implementation technology
Consistent allocation of responsibilities across Systems and Domains
A specification that can support multiple platforms, industries, and missions
