SIP-037 — Technology-Neutral Integration Points

Go to Annex C: Requirements

Statement

The architectural model SHALL identify integration points with information-exchange and semantic-Federation frameworks while remaining independent of any specific transport, exchange, or modeling standard.

Rationale

Explicit integration points allow the proposed Reference Architecture to use existing and future information-exchange and semantic-Federation frameworks without incorporating a particular framework into the architecture itself.

Technology-neutral integration points support portability, reuse, evolution, and the use of different standards in different operational, jurisdictional, or security contexts.

Evaluation Criteria

A conforming Submission demonstrates that:

  1. Integration points with information-exchange frameworks are identified
  2. Integration points with semantic-Federation frameworks are identified
  3. The responsibilities and information associated with each integration point are described
  4. Required interactions are expressed independently of a specific implementation technology
  5. More than one transport, exchange, or modeling standard can realize the integration points
  6. Conformance does not require a particular vendor product or tooling environment
  7. Technology-specific mappings can be defined without altering the platform-independent architectural model

Notes for Editors

Technology neutrality does not prevent a Submission from providing informative mappings or examples using existing standards. Such mappings and examples must remain separate from the normative, platform-independent architectural definition.
