The Submission SHALL reuse applicable existing OMG and other recognized standards rather than define new models that provide equivalent capabilities.
Mandatory
Reusing established standards promotes interoperability, consistency, implementation reuse, and compatibility with the existing standards ecosystem. It also reduces the risk of introducing overlapping concepts, conflicting definitions, and competing conformance requirements.
A new model is appropriate when no applicable existing standard provides the required capability. In that case, the Submission must distinguish the unmet architectural need from capabilities already standardized elsewhere.
A conforming Submission demonstrates that:
The qualification “applicable” avoids requiring use of a standard that does not address the architectural need. “Equivalent capabilities” is used instead of “similar functionality” to provide a more objective basis for evaluation.
GPR-007 does not prohibit new models. When a new model is necessary, the Submission must identify the unmet need and demonstrate that the model does not duplicate an applicable existing standard.
SIP-026 preserves existing OMG specifications. SIP-034 preserves existing transport and exchange constructs. SIP-038 prohibits duplicating capabilities standardized by existing information-exchange, Interoperability, and semantic-federation specifications.
