Discussion

The Monetary Ecosystem identifies the major financial activity area concerned with money, currency, exchange, payment, settlement, liquidity, and monetary obligations.

Within the Finance Ecosphere, the Monetary Ecosystem provides the parent classification for financial domains involving currency-denominated obligations, settlement flows, exchange relationships, payment instructions, liquidity events, or monetary value transfers.

The Monetary Ecosystem provides the classification context for the Foreign Exchange Domain and may also provide context for other monetary domains introduced in later work.

Definition

Ecosystem within the Finance Ecosphere covering money, currency, exchange, payment, settlement, liquidity, and monetary obligations

Source

Adapted from the Archetype Classification Model defined in Section 5 and from the original FX Demo Reference Architecture classification material; generalised for the Financial Systems Archetype conceptual layer.

Note

The Monetary Ecosystem is not a payment network, currency system, central bank system, settlement platform, runtime plane, or deployment environment.

Example

Foreign Exchange and Commercial Paper may be treated as Domains within the Monetary Ecosystem when the document set formally defines those classifications.
