OR-005 — Distributed Environment Management

Crucible SHALL perform Centralized Management of two or more Distributed Environments.

This requirement derives from:

• Crucible System Requirements Specification, Version 1.1 Draft, Operational Requirements, OR-005

The Original Requirement states:

The system SHALL support centralized management of distributed environments.[C1]

OR-005 replaces the system with the defined system name Crucible, replaces the weak verb support with perform, and defines the minimum quantity represented by distributed environments as two.

Organizations operate Infrastructure Environments whose components, resources, or services span multiple networked locations or Nodes.

Centralized Management provides a unified management authority for those environments without requiring the managed environments to form a Centralized System.

A Distributed Environment can use a Distributed System or a Distributed Network Topology while remaining subject to Centralized Management by Crucible.

This requirement establishes the centralized-management capability without prescribing a particular Management Interface, network topology, communication protocol, or implementation technology.

Verification confirms that:

1. At least two Distributed Environments are selected for management
2. Crucible performs management operations for each selected Distributed Environment
3. The management operations are performed through the Centralized Management capability
4. The Centralized Management capability identifies the Distributed Environment to which each tested management operation applies
5. A user or automated process can manage each selected Distributed Environment through the Centralized Management capability
6. The tested Distributed Environments satisfy the characteristics defined for a Distributed Environment
