====== View ====== Go up to Terms and Definitions ===== Discussion ===== A View presents selected information about a subject to address identified stakeholder concerns in accordance with one or more Viewpoints. The subject of a View may be a: * System * System element * Domain * Organization * Process * Model * Architecture * Federation * Other subject of interest A View selects and presents only the information needed to address its specified concerns. It does not attempt to reproduce every characteristic of its subject. A View may specify or contain: * Selected Model elements * Relationships among those elements * Information-selection conditions * Tables, diagrams, matrices, text, or other renderings * Analytical results * Applicable assumptions and Constraints * Relationships to other Views * Evidence that the governing Viewpoint is satisfied A View conforms to a Viewpoint when it addresses the concerns and satisfies the conventions, selection criteria, presentation rules, and other requirements established by that Viewpoint. In Systems Modeling Language Version 2 (SysML v2), a View is a rendered presentation of selected Model information. A View Definition specifies how the View is constructed, including the conditions that select Model content and the rendering used to present that content. A View may satisfy one or more Viewpoints. ===== Definition ===== //representation of a subject that presents selected information to address specified stakeholder concerns in accordance with one or more Viewpoints// ===== Source ===== Aligned with ISO/IEC/IEEE 42010 architecture-description concepts and the OMG Systems Modeling Language Version 2.0 Language Specification treatment of Views, View Definitions, Viewpoints, Model-content selection, and rendering. ===== Note ===== A View is distinct from a Viewpoint. A Viewpoint establishes the concerns and conventions governing the View. The View is the representation produced in accordance with those concerns and conventions. A View is also distinct from a Model. A Model represents selected aspects of a subject for a defined purpose. A View selects and presents information from one or more Models to address particular stakeholder concerns. A diagram may be one rendering within a View. A View is not limited to a single diagram and may include text, tables, matrices, calculations, analytical results, and other representations. ===== Example ===== A security-assurance View presents trust boundaries, information flows, identities, security controls, threats, residual risks, and supporting Evidence for a particular System. It selects and renders this information according to the requirements established by the security-assurance Viewpoint. ---- © 2026 Dido Solutions, Inc. and Jackrabbit Consulting, Inc.
