====== Semantic Alignment ====== [[public:99_annexes:annex-b-terms-and-definitions:start|Go up to Terms and Definitions]] ===== Discussion ===== A Semantic Alignment establishes an explicit relationship between concepts defined by different models, vocabularies, schemas, standards, or information communities. The alignment describes how the concepts' meanings correspond. It may state that concepts are equivalent, broader, narrower, overlapping, related, or incompatible. It may also identify conditions under which the relationship applies. A Semantic Alignment addresses meaning. It does not prescribe how a concept must be represented using a programming language, schema language, middleware product, database, or other implementation technology. ===== Definition ===== > //explicit relationship describing how the meaning of a concept in one semantic context corresponds to the meaning of a concept in another semantic context// ===== Source ===== DIDO Solutions, Inc. ===== Note ===== A Semantic Alignment does not necessarily assert that two concepts are identical. The alignment must identify the nature and scope of the correspondence. A Semantic Alignment differs from an [[public:99_annexes:annex-b-terms-and-definitions:i:implementation_mapping|Implementation Mapping]]. A Semantic Alignment relates meanings across semantic contexts. An Implementation Mapping specifies how a concept or information structure is represented using a selected technology. A Semantic Alignment should identify the source concept, target concept, relationship type, applicable conditions, source authority, supporting rationale, and version information. ===== Example ===== The FX Information Model defines an FX Trade using the terminology and relationships used in the FX domain. A Semantic Alignment may relate that concept to a corresponding concept in FIBO or another established financial model. The alignment records whether the concepts are equivalent or whether their meanings differ in scope. ---- © 2026 DIDO Solutions, Inc. All Rights Reserved.
