====== SIP-046 — Platform Independent Model Abstract Syntax ====== [[public:00-sip-ra:99-annexes:annex-c-requirements:start|Go to Annex C: Requirements]] ===== Statement ===== The [[public:99_annexes:annex-b-terms-and-definitions:p:platform_independent_model|Platform Independent Model (PIM)]] SHALL define an abstract syntax for its architectural constructs, relationships, and constraints. ===== Rationale ===== An abstract syntax identifies the concepts that may appear in a conforming model and defines how those concepts may be combined. It separates the PIM structure from any graphical notation, textual syntax, serialization format, or modeling tool used to represent it. A defined abstract syntax supports consistent model creation, exchange, transformation, validation, and conformance assessment. ===== Evaluation Criteria ===== A conforming Submission demonstrates that: - The architectural constructs belonging to the abstract syntax are identified - The properties of each construct are defined - Permitted relationships among constructs are specified - Relationship roles, directionality, cardinalities, and constraints are defined - Applicable composition, specialization, and containment rules are specified - Well-formedness rules distinguish valid models from invalid models - The abstract syntax remains independent of any graphical notation or textual serialization - Representations of the PIM can be traced to elements of the abstract syntax ===== Referenced By ===== {{backlinks>public:00-sip-ra:99-annexes:annex-c-requirements:sip-046-platform-independent-model-abstract-syntax}} ===== Notes for Editors ===== The adopted specification may express the abstract syntax using an OMG modeling language or metamodeling facility. The normative architectural concepts must remain distinguishable from the particular notation or tool used to express them.
