===== Statement =====

The proposed [[public:99_annexes:annex-b-terms-and-definitions:r:reference_architecture|Reference Architecture]] SHALL be defined at a platform-independent level without requiring a specific modeling language or notation.

===== Rationale =====

The proposed Reference Architecture defines architectural concepts and relationships independently of the technologies used to implement them. Its normative meaning must not depend on constructs available only within a particular implementation platform, modeling tool, or proprietary notation.

The adopted specification may use an OMG modeling language or notation to express its formal [[public:99_annexes:annex-b-terms-and-definitions:p:platform_independent_model|Platform Independent Model (PIM)]]. That authoring choice does not require conforming implementations to use the same language, notation, or tool.

===== Evaluation Criteria =====

A conforming Submission demonstrates that:

  - The proposed Reference Architecture is defined at a platform-independent level
  - Platform-specific implementation details are excluded from the normative architectural definition
  - Architectural meaning does not depend on features unique to a particular modeling language or notation
  - The selected normative representation is identified
  - Equivalent representations can preserve the architectural meaning
  - Conforming implementations are not required to use the specification-authoring language or notation
  - Informative platform-specific mappings are distinguishable from the normative PIM

SIP-001 establishes the general platform independence of the proposed Reference Architecture. SIP-039 applies that principle specifically to defining and representing the architectural model.
