===== Statement =====

A Submission that specifies a [[public:99_annexes:annex-b-terms-and-definitions:p:platform_independent_model|Platform Independent Model (PIM)]] and one or more corresponding [[public:99_annexes:annex-b-terms-and-definitions:p:platform_specific_model|Platform Specific Models (PSMs)]] SHALL reference an applicable standard mapping or specify the rules used to map the PIM to each PSM.

This requirement applies when a Submission specifies both:

  - A PIM
  - One or more corresponding PSMs derived from or related to that PIM

===== Rationale =====

A PSM incorporates implementation-platform details that are absent from its corresponding PIM. The relationship between them must therefore be governed by identifiable mapping rules.

Referencing a standard mapping or defining the applicable mapping rules enables evaluators and implementers to determine how platform-independent constructs correspond to platform-specific constructs. It also supports repeatable transformation, consistency analysis, and traceability between model levels.

===== Evaluation Criteria =====

A conforming Submission to which this requirement applies demonstrates that:

  - The applicable PIM is identified
  - Each corresponding PSM is identified
  - The relationship between the PIM and each PSM is stated
  - An applicable standard mapping is referenced or mapping rules are specified
  - The version of each referenced standard mapping is identified
  - Source and target model elements addressed by the mapping can be determined
  - Transformation, refinement, omission, and addition rules are described
  - Platform-specific information introduced by the mapping can be identified
  - Exceptions or deviations from a referenced standard mapping are documented
  - Traceability between applicable PIM and PSM elements can be established

This requirement does not apply when a Submission specifies only a PIM and does not include corresponding PSMs.

The requirement does not mandate automated model transformation. It requires the relationship between the PIM and each corresponding PSM to be defined or governed by a referenced standard mapping.
