====== GPR-002 — XMI Representation of Non-OMG-Language Models ====== [[public:00-sip-ra:99-annexes:annex-c-requirements:start|Go to Annex C: Requirements]] ===== Statement ===== A Submitter using a non-OMG modeling language SHOULD make a best effort to include a machine-readable [[https://www.omg.org/spec/XMI/|OMG XML Metadata Interchange (XMI)]] representation of the models. ===== Requirement Level ===== Recommended ===== Rationale ===== An XMI representation may improve model accessibility, interchange, comparison, and evaluation even when the original model is expressed using a non-OMG modeling language. Some non-OMG modeling languages may not have a complete or direct mapping to an XMI-compatible metamodel. The `SHOULD` obligation recognizes this limitation while asking Submitters to make a reasonable effort to provide an interoperable machine-readable representation. ===== Evaluation Criteria ===== A Submission addressing this recommendation demonstrates that: - Each model expressed using a non-OMG modeling language is identified - The feasibility of providing an XMI representation is considered - An XMI representation is supplied when a practical mapping is available - The source modeling-language version is identified - The applicable XMI version is identified - Mapping rules or transformations used to produce the XMI representation are described - Information lost, altered, or approximated during transformation is identified - Required metamodels, schemas, profiles, libraries, or dependencies are supplied or referenced - If an XMI representation is not supplied, the technical reason is documented - Any alternative machine-readable representation is identified ===== Referenced By ===== {{backlinks>public:00-sip-ra:99-annexes:annex-c-requirements:gpr-002-xmi-representation-of-non-omg-language-models}} ===== Notes for Editors ===== This is a recommended requirement. A Submitter may depart from a `SHOULD` provision when a valid reason exists, but the Submission should document that reason and describe any resulting limitations. This requirement does not imply that every non-OMG modeling language can be represented completely or losslessly using XMI.
