===== Discussion =====

A Deployment Baseline is a specialization of [[dido:99_annexes:annex-b-terms-and-definitions:b:baseline|Baseline]] that establishes an approved reference for the [[dido:99_annexes:annex-b-terms-and-definitions:a:artifact|Artifacts]], configuration, parameters, relationships, and constraints used for a deployment.

The general concept of Baseline provides the controlled reference against which a subject can be compared, evaluated, changed, or restored.

A Deployment Baseline applies that concept to a deployment and may identify:

  * Deployable Artifacts
  * Artifact revisions

  * [[dido:99_annexes:annex-b-terms-and-definitions:i:infrastructure_blueprint|Infrastructure Blueprints]]

  * Platform components
  * Deployment specifications
  * Required parameters
  * Component relationships
  * Target-environment constraints

  * Applicable [[dido:99_annexes:annex-b-terms-and-definitions:a:acceptance_criteria|Acceptance Criteria]]

A Deployment Baseline differs from an [[dido:99_annexes:annex-b-terms-and-definitions:i:infrastructure_baseline|Infrastructure Baseline]]:

  * An Infrastructure Baseline establishes the approved reference for infrastructure characteristics
  * A Deployment Baseline establishes the approved reference for the complete set of controlled inputs and conditions used to perform a deployment

A Deployment Baseline may incorporate or reference an Infrastructure Baseline, Security Baseline, platform baseline, or other subordinate Baseline.

A Deployment Baseline also differs from a deployment record:

  * The Deployment Baseline identifies the approved reference used to perform a deployment
  * The deployment record identifies what occurred during a particular deployment execution

A Deployment Baseline should have an identifiable revision so an evaluator can determine which reference applied to a particular deployment.

A Deployment Baseline may apply to:

  * Application deployment
  * Combined deployment workflows

Approval of a Deployment Baseline does not establish that a deployment succeeded or that the deployed result satisfies the applicable Acceptance Criteria.

The applicable deployment record may identify:

  * The Deployment Baseline revision used
  * The target Infrastructure Environment
  * The deployment start and completion events
  * The observed results
  * Deviations from the Deployment Baseline
  * Generated [[dido:99_annexes:annex-b-terms-and-definitions:e:evidence|Evidence]]

The term does not prescribe a particular deployment tool, orchestration product, repository, platform, or implementation technology.

A Deployment Baseline identifies the Infrastructure Configuration, Machine Image revision, platform packages, Security Baseline, deployment parameters, and Acceptance Criteria used to perform a Platform Deployment within a production Infrastructure Environment.
