====== 3.1 Introduction ======

[[https://www.omg.org/|OMG]] decides which specifications to adopt via votes of its Membership. The selected specifications should align with [[dido:99_annexes:annex-b-terms-and-definitions:m:mda|MDA]]'s architectural vision. OMG bases its decisions on both business and technical considerations. Once OMG adopts a specification, OMG makes the specification available for use by both OMG members and non-members alike, at no charge.

Section 3 provides an extended summary of the RFP process. For more detailed information, see the Policies and Procedures of the OMG Technical Process [P&P], specifically Section 4.2, and the OMG Hitchhiker’s Guide [Guide]. In the event of any inconsistency between this document, the Hitchhiker's Guide, and the Policies and Procedures, the P&P is always authoritative. OMG's Intellectual Property Rights Policy [IPR] governs all IPR-related matters.
